Violeta Xhaferi (b.1947) is a costume designer and painter. Born and raised in Kosovo, Xhaferi studied Costume Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade and graduated in 1972. She established herself as an esteemed costume designer, working in over a hundred plays at the National Theater of Kosovo and several films produced by Kosovafilm. Presented in many exhibitions, Xhaferi's drawings of meticulous costume designs put equal emphasis on the character's facial features. A series of these works are in the National Gallery of Kosovo collection. After exile in Norway in the 1990s, her focus shifted to paintings and prints. In the early 2000s, she returned to Kosovo for two years, assuming a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prishtina. Recently, she developed a newfound dedication to canvas installations, merging her artistic practice with painting and textiles. Currently, she lives and works between Prishtina and Kristiansand.
